Reviving Our Space: Front Yard Update in the Midwest

Settling into the vibrant landscapes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, after leaving the arid deserts of Arizona was quite the change for my husband and me. But as spring brings new life to the area, we're loving every moment of it. There's something so invigorating about seeing flowers and leaves popping up everywhere.

As we made our new house a home, we couldn't ignore the neglected planter bed in our front yard. It seemed the previous owners left it bare, probably due to its limited sunlight and sandy soil.

Determined to breathe life into the space, we headed to our local nursery (Home Depot, in our case) to find plants suited to the conditions. After some exploration, we settled on perennials, ensuring a lasting investment in our garden. Cala lilies and salvia were our picks, as they could handle the available light and add a burst of color to the area.

With plants in hand, we got to work. Carefully assessing the sunlight exposure and soil quality, we ensured each species would thrive in its new home. My trusty Cutco gardening tools made the job a breeze, though my husband needed a bit of guidance in the planting department.

After planting and watering our new additions, we were thrilled with the results. The planter bed now boasts a splash of color, adding charm and character to our yard. And my favorite part? Seeing them from our big front room window—it's like our own little slice of paradise.
